Most importantly, cooling needs are decreased by well over 25 percent, diminishing the greenhouse effect. Plants will absorb the heat radiated from concrete and blacktop.

A flat, black roof is not as visually pleasing than a rooftop garden. Whether you plant grass, flowers, or brush, you now have a place to stop and smell the roses. Keep a lookout for Summerlin homes going green. For now, green roofing can only be found in the big city.
