Summer is in full bloom. With heat spells circulating across most of the country, power to run the AC has become limited. There are many things you can do to cool down if your Summerlin home is without an AC.

To start, place something frozen in your hand for as long as possible. This will cool down your body for almost an hour and will decrease your temperature by as much as 3 degrees F. If it starts to hurt, stop. Even if you are not thirsty, drink a lot of H2O. You will want to compensate for all of the fluids lost from perspiration. Avoid direct sunlight. If you have to go outdoors, cover up with airy, loose-fitting clothes.

Turn off all heat sources such as lights or the TV. Take a cool shower or bath, making sure you get your hair wet. Place a damp towel behind your neck, on your forehead, on the inside of your wrists and elbows, and on the backs of your knees. These points will naturally cool the rest of your body down.

Go to the movies, a bookstore, or other air-conditioned spot if all else fails. Roughing it for a couple days should not be that hard. After all, humans have lived for thousands of years with no AC.
